Walmart & T-Mobile Tapped For Angry Birds Space Promotion

Walmart has signed up to help promote Rovio Mobile’s next big mega hit Angry Birds Space. The game goes live in app markets across the world tomorrow, and if there was a store to line up to buy the app the tent lines would be around buildings by now.

The newest installment of Angry Birds is very well developed and takes on it’s physics nature that the game is grounded on. To come up with physics principals pertaining to space and weightlessness Rovio consulted real astronauts from Russia and NASA.

The Angry Birds phenomenon has taken the world by storm and already resulted in 700 million downloads and billions of dollars in licensed merchandise sales. In the U.S., Walmart has been one of their biggest retailers. Walmart stores in the U.S. carry Angry Birds plush toys, cat toys, fruit snacks, cookies, cakes, apparel, and more.  That’s why it’s only natural that WalMart promotes Angry Birds Space.

Venturebeat reports that this is the first time WalMart has ever stepped in to promote an app. Walmart is setting up a special Angry Birds Space Facebook page. In stores Walmart will have game clues hidden in select limited edition Angry Birds Space merchandise starting March 25th.

T-Mobile reps will also be showing off the Angry Birds Space game and show customers how they can get bonuses and extra content.

The Angry Birds Space launch has all the fundamentals of an Apple launch in the comfort of your own home.

“We wanted to give our fans a unique retail extension to Angry Birds Space that rewards them for their eagle eyes,” said Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer and Mighty Eagle of Rovio Entertainment told Venture Beats Dean Takahashi “Only Walmart can deliver the reach across America for this type of programm and we wish our fans luck as they seek out our hidden clues.”
