Dallas Startup: Qwiqq Check Into The Things You Love And Buy; Is Great For Merchants Too

In 2012 using your mobile smartphone you can check into almost everything. You can check into venues, concerts, stores, malls, the music you like and the tv shows you love. Now you can check into the things you buy and love with Dallas’ Qwikk.

The Dallas startup, founded by John Phan and Jack Wrigley, launched in 2010, right as another startup focusing on things people like was starting to bubble. Yes I am referring to Pinterest. But here’s the deal. I’m a 30 something year old man and while I have a Pinterest account, I feel out of place on the network that is admittedly geared towards women.

Qwiqq isn’t like that. It’s about sharing the deal you just got or the great thing you just bought. Perusing Qwiqq is not about just beautiful dresses and recipes for cupcakes. Qwiqq’s intuitive and easy to navigate user interface allows you to post about anything. Categories include health, food, bar, fashion, beauty, arts and entertainment, sport, tech, pet, home and car. So yes dudes and geekettes can post about their favorite phone, computer or that sweet ride.

More after the break

Qwiqq recently released their updated 2.0 version of their app to the iTunes store. This time around not only did they consider the user but they put more emphasis on the merchant as well.

“We paid special attention to the needs of local merchants when it comes to social media,” said Jack Wrigley, co-founder of Qwiqq. Based on their feedback, Qwiqq provides an easy, real-time way to capture what local merchants want to sell and then share it out of network to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, SMS and Email. “We call that a commerce post,” said Wrigley. In addition, Qwiqq provides consumers a way to share what they love to buy regardless of price, product or service. “Real-time, frictionless sharing is key. The result is a commerce platform designed to sell local products and services wrapped in a fun, engaging, social container,” Wrigley added.

A trend away from group buying and daily deals is starting to emerge. We’ve reported on a lot of reward/loyalty/engagement apps recently. While Qwiqq isn’t exactly in that category the data that can be extracted from the Qwiqq user base could be invaluable to a merchant and with Qwiqq their merchant isn’ just the local restaurant owner.
Qwiqq was just announced as a “One To Watch” semi finalist, in the TeXchange “One To Watch” contest. They are among a group of 12 semi finalists which will be narrowed down to just five on May 10th. The final winner will be announced at the Fast Tech Reveal event on August 14th, highlighting Texas startups.
