That is exactly what Mitsubishi is hoping to do with them teaming up with WiTricity Corp. and IHI Corp. Mitsubishi already has an electric vehicle in China called the iMiEV. There hopes are to make it instead of having to always plug in your electric car, to have the ability to drive over the sensor and have the magnets charge. They found that its 90% efficient in doing so this way and hopes of bringing it to the mass market. The system that WiTricity developed can deliver 3.3 kilowatts of charging power over a distance of eight inches apart.

The companies expect to roll out the technology in three steps–research and development, real-world testing and commercialization. Doing so this way while taking longer will prevent possible both tampering and I’ll effects with such a new system.
