Synapse And Start Up Viableware Develop Mobile Payment Platform For Restaurants

As payments go more and more mobile the next industry that should naturally heat up is restaurants and hospitality.

Although it’s not a rampant issue there have been cases where restaurant employees have been able to swipe and clone customers credit cards and then sold the information on line or used it later to commit credit card fraud. Viableware’s new RAIL system will eliminate than once it’s implemented on a larger scale.

The Kirkland based start up is currently testing their new “digital bill folder system” in Seattle area restaurants. This new system communicates wirelessly with POS systems already installed in the restaurant. It currently allows customers to swipe their own credit/debit card at the table. It also allows customers to add the tip instantly and send an email receipt to an email address of their choice.

From the restaurants perspective RAIL improves wait staff efficiency. We are all too aware of how the current process at most restaurants involves to trips from the server, one to swipe the credit card and add the tip and then one for the signing of the receipt. Although that second step may not seem to take too long, eliminating it will save servers a lot of time.

The system eliminates any chance of fraud as the card is always in control of their credit card. While RAIL isn’t currently employing NFC technology, the partnership between Viableware and Synaps includes development of RFID and NFC technology that could be added to the system later on.

The RAIL system will also allow restaurants to put advertising in front of the customer while the transaction is processed. Also, those all too familiar surveys to get $10 off your next purchase could be delivered instantly to the customer as well.

“We were pleased that Viableware approached us with such an innovative and challenging opportunity,” said Craig Hummel, Business Development Manager at Synapse.”We quickly established a great synergy with their leadership team and embraced their vision.”

“Synapse was a true partner throughout the entire process, from concept design to deployment,” said Steve Stoddard, Viableware president. “Without their insight, resources and development expertise, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve the aggressive production schedule we did.”
