Texas Start Up Kewl, Keeps Insulin Cool And Just Landed A Cool Million

Kewl Innovations, Diabetes Insulin Cooler, Nibletz, PandodailyA Richardson Texas start up called Kewl has just completed a series A round from angel investors to the cool beat of $1 million dollars.

Kewl has one simple task, to keep insulin cool for insulin dependent diabetics. Until now diabetics who are insulin dependent had to keep their insulin in coolers, icepacks, lunchboxes or whatever else they could rig up at home to keep their medicine cool. It also meant things like making sure a hotel room they stayed in overnight had a refrigerator. That may seem easy enough but it’s one headache after another for those diabetics to try and maintain a normal lifestyle.

More after the break

Mike Wilkinson, the founder and chairman of Kewl Innovations is one of those diabetics. He created the device that keeps insulin cool for up to three days on a single charge. It’s the perfect device for a diabetic that likes to travel or enjoy the outdoors away from refrigerators, ice packs and ice buckets. It even means you don’t have to buy one of those expensive cigarette lighter mini fridges for the car.

Wilkinson’s necessity for this product makes it a “For us by us” company, the founder tells launchdfw.

The device monitors and moderates the temperature of a diabetic’s personal insulin supply for 3-5 days on a single charge. It uses nanontechnology and advanced monitoring systems and eliminates the need for frozen gel packs. All the user needs to do is put their insulin into the device and remember to charge it.

With $1,000,000 series A round complete, Kewl Innovations is finishing up their go to market product and plans to have it available for the millions of other diabetics in the U.S. by the summer time so that they can enjoy hot days knowing their insulin is at the temperature it needs to be at.
