Siri Gets Sued Again

Siri has been in the news it seems like everyday since she was released on the iPhone 4S. Not only has she been in the news she has been featured in regular sitcom tv as well. Earlier this year Big Bang Theory featured Siri in an episode where Raj falls in love with her. Raj has an ailment that doesn’t allow him to talk to human women without consuming alcohol. With Siri, he didn’t need to consume alcohol. The joke is driven home when Raj tracks down the Siri command center and tries, to talk to the real life Siri and just stumbles in disappointment.

The way Apple showed off Siri’s abilities have driven two different men to file suit against Apple. The latest plaintiff is David Jones. He filed his lawsuit on Tuesday in a Los Angeles district court. The suit was filed because of “false and deceptive representations” of Siri’s skill set, according to the Los Angeles Times.

More after the break

“Apple’s deceptive commercials diverge greatly from the actual functionality and operation of the Siri feature as experienced by Plaintiff and fellow consumers,” the suit argues. “For example, in many of Apple’s television commercials, consumers are shown using Siri to make appointments, find restaurants, and even to learn the guitar chords to classic rock songs. In its advertisements, Apple depicts these tasks as easily accomplished ‘just by asking’ Siri.”

Venturebeat points out that Apple still lists her in beta. Also, in an independent third party study only 55% of Siri’s users are happy with her assistance and functionality.

The other plaintiff, Frank Fazio, filed a class action complaint against Apple and Siri for many of the same reasons Davis brought suit.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how Siri feels about the whole mess.

Siri sucks because she’s young. A more mature woman would be sure not to disappoint.

And Apple is not the first one to do this. They had talking computers on Star Trek decades ago.
