Fire One Up: Denver’s First Marijuana Startup Is Pot 107.1

While the legalization of recreational use of marijuana has sparked a lot of people moving to Colorado, we’ve been anxiously waiting for the first marijuana inspired startup to report on.

Well that time has come from national broadcast company Max Media. The radio station ownership company based in Virginia Beach VA has always tried cutting edge radio formats and their new station “Pot 107.1” is on that edge.

The tagline for the radio station is “Denver’s Dopest Hits” and replaced the top 40 station Hot 107.1 that was on that frequency until Friday afternoon.  Pot 107.1 will play a mix of hip hop, reggae and classic rock, inspired by the recreational use of marijuana. For instance the station kicked off with John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” and since then has played a variety of songs by Bone Thungs & Harmony, Gin & Juice by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Because I got High by Afroman and classics by the Grateful Dead.

While it’s common practice for radio companies to change formats of radio stations temporarily between more permanent format changes as “stunts”, from people we’ve talked to we’ve heard that this is for real.

“This change is reflective of COLORADO’s exploding cannabis culture and the overwhelming passing of AMENDMENT 64 in this past election,” Dir./Programming Brian Degrasse said in a statement.

Of course we all know that there the two states that approved recreational use of Marijuana are still figuring out where the federal government fits in all of this, for now it is what it is.
