California Teenage Serial Entrepreneur Creates EdTech Startup StatFuse

StatFuse,California startup, startup interview, startup, startupsJeet Banerjee is a 20 year old entrepreneur from Fullerton California, a town outside Los Angeles. He started his first startup at age 17 and sold it. Since then he’s had numerous other innovative ideas and he’s also written a book called “The Pursuit of Passion: Entrepreneurs Guide To Turn Hobbies Into Successful Businesses.”. Now he’s teamed up with 18 year old Supan Shah to create an EdTech startup called StatFuse, that really benefit students in their age group.

Their idea actually came out of a bet. Shah bet Banerjee that he could get into Harvard. There was a lot riding on this bet and neither young man wanted to wait the four months it takes to find out if he was accepted. They were shocked to find there wasn’t a website where they could quickly enter grades, extra curriculars and test scores to see if getting into Harvard was even a possibility.

Like all other great startups, this idea steam rolled into an entire suite of patent pending tools for prospective college students to use. Now StatFuse can estimate your chances at getting into a school, keep track of your applications, provide tips to improve chances of getting into colleges and even give virtual campus tours.

While there are other college preparation tools out there, StatFuse has been created by two incredibly intelligent founders who are currently at the age where their tools would be the most relevant.

We got a chance to interview Banerjee, check out our interview below.

Where are you based?

Fullerton, California.

What is the startup culture like where you are based?

I would say it’s not as exuberant as other areas. There are a good amount of startups and entrepreneurs, but the community isn’t as strong as it can be.

What problem does your startup solve?

We solve the stress everyone deals with when college season arrives. We take the stress out of college applications and provide real-time insights on how to transition from high school to college successfully.

What is one challenge that you’ve overcome in the startup process?

The biggest challenge we have overcome throughout the startup process is finding the right marketing strategy. It’s often hard to come up with the best marketing or branding strategy, and it took us some time as well. However, finally in the end….we found the right mix and have been successful since then.

Who are your mentors and role models?

My personal mentor is my Father as he has motivated me and given me the opportunities to pursue my dream as an entrepreneur. I’ve also seen Steve Jobs as a visionary and marketing role model as he had done so many great things.

Whats one thing the world doesn’t know about you or your startup?

The startup all began with a funny bet actually. My current partner & I were having a slow day at the gym, nobody wanted to play us in basketball…..so we sat there and began talking about how he’s applying to colleges in a few weeks. He told me he could get into Harvard and I had a laughing fit. I said I’ll bet him anything he cannot.

Well, we had an intense bet, but we really didn’t wanna wait 4-5 months to hear back. We were anxious to capitalize on the bet right away! We went home and looked intensely through the internet to see if there was a place to enter your grades to see your chances of being accepted to college.

To our surprise, there was nothing credible. From there we actually began pursuing the business opportunity and it has turned into what it is today.

What’s next for your startup?

We are looking to grow and expand as quickly as possible. We want to offer our helpful and innovative solutions to as many students as possible and that’s what we have been up to recently.
