Paris Startup: LimeApp Is The Daily Deals Site For Online Services INTERVIEW

There are daily deal sites everywhere. Groupon and LivingSocial started a phenomenon for products, weight loss facilities, canoe trips, adventures and even cupcakes. You can find a daily deal for just about every tangible product known to man, heck you can find 20 deal sites these days.

LimeApp is a daily deals site that’s sole focus is online services. Think apps, cloud based storage, web hosting, things like that. As the LimeApp team told us in an interview, they specialize only in intangible products.

Some of the deals available on LimeApp today include 100 gb of cloud storage from Elephant Drive for $49 (retail value $99), Email marketing from ActiveCampaign for $99 (a $250 value), and professional banner creation from Canned Banners a $90 value for just $59.99

LimeApp tops everything off with a money back guarantee.

We got a chance to talk to the LimeApp people in the interview below.

What is LimeApp?

LimeApp is a daily deals website specializing in online products and services. We only deal with theintangible. Things like cloud storage, vectors, bank images, music, applications, online tutorials, anything that is online and great.

Who are the founders and what are their backgrounds?

Our founders are Arthur Furtos & Sebastien Geist. Arthur is an ex investment banker, and Sebastien was a Marketing Brand Manager for Procter & Gamble & Nestle here in France.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Paris, near the Canal St Martin, which is a really nice area in Summer for picnics, and sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine and cheese (of course our CEO’s are French).

What’s the startup culture like in Paris?

Most of the startups in France are based in Paris as it’s the cultural hub of the country. Over the last few years the web industry in France is really flourishing. Many giant video game companies are based here, and there is a real emphasis on technology being the future of the business world.

There are also a lot of startup competitions and summits in Europe. I think that Europe could surpass the US in the tech industry in the very near future.

What problem does LimeApp solve?

Every day hundreds of new online services and applications are appearing. What we do here is, try to find the good ones, and offer them to our customers at a discounted rate. We feel this is a win/ win/win situation. The customers win, in that they get good products for cheaper than what they’d usually pay and they find out about a new service they haven’t heard about before in a lot of cases. It’s a win for the partner, as they make sales from us as well as getting a free marketing campaign to give their brand a boost. It’s a win for us as we get to spend our day testing hundreds of web products, it’s a geek paradise.

Deals is becoming a very crowded space, what’s your secret sauce?

It is, and it isn’t. There are many deals sites popping up, but most of them follow the same formula as one of its predecessors. We truly feel that LimeApp has no direct competitor, in that, no-one really does what we do on the same scale. There are similar sites, but they have very different focuses to ours, and are generally more industry specific.

The secret starts in the minor details. It’s not about taking over the world instantly, it’s about putting in hard work even when it’s difficult. It’s about forming partnerships with companies who make good products, rather just anything you can take. I think our secret sauce is just the feeling in the office. We’re a team here, we celebrate each other’s achievements, and we realize that it’s important to have a good work/life balance.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in the startup process?

Finding our user base member by member, and finding the best online services to propose to our community. It’s always a challenge in the beginning to get your name out there, but it just requires hard work and a little bit of luck here and there. We’ve received really good advice from our mentors, and we have a great office space with a really good vibe that makes it much easier to operate in. So overall I think we’re coping pretty well with the challenges.

What’s next for LimeApp?

We have a few plans in the works. We’re launching a strictly BtoC section very soon. We’re also about to launch a competition section to reward some of our users with some fun stuff, and some cool giveaways. We also have a few more tricks up the sleeve, but I think we’ll keep them under our hat for now.
