Brandery Check In With Louisville Startup Impulcity

Impulcity is an amazing feature packed discovery startup from Louisville, KY. We spoke with Hunter Hammonds the CEO of Impulcity back in June before they had moved into the Brandery. Hammonds was very optimistic about Impulcity and the Brandery. After two weeks in he’s just as optimistic.

Hammonds reports that they’ve trimmed a lot of fat off the app and gotten back down to the core. They have a unique way of presenting discovery so that it’s not just about the actual discovery, it’s both fun and exciting as well. Impulcity is about a lot more than just checking in.

Yesterday we talked with the CrowdHall team at the Brandery. They were still riding high off a win at the BunBury, TechBury Pitch Wars on Friday. The team from Utah took home a $1,000 check and they’re buying lunch for the entire class of the Brandery tomorrow.

Don’t let that full you though warns Hammonds. He and his co-founder Austin arrived at the Brandery a full month ahead of everyone else to get a running start. That strategy may be paying off well for these hard working entrepreneurs from Louisville.  Let’s check in with Hunter Hammonds.

So give us a little insight how was your first 15 days at the Brandery?
Intense. The program has far exceeded our expectations thus far. It’s been really interesting to get to know the other companies and learn more about their ideas and passions. It was actually pretty funny the first morning, Austin and I had moved into the Brandery about a month early and had gotten used to having the space all to ourselves. When we walked in around 8:45 am that Monday, the place was packed! It was crazy to see the office so alive with energy and new comers.
Now that you’re finally at the Brandery what’s one thing that has surprised you guys about Impulcity?
Honestly, we’ve been working on Impulcity full-time for quite sometime now, so I don’t think anything has surprised us too much yet… Maybe our ability to simplify the product even further. We’re really focusing on how we can simplify every last aspect and make the product as polished as possible. We’re iterating much faster than we had originally anticipated.
What’s the best piece of honest feedback you’ve received from either the Brandery folks or a mentor?
We’ve got some terrific mentors. Logan Lahive – CEO of Belly, Mike Brown Jr – Founder at AOL Ventures, Thad Langford – Zave Networks & Open Air Equity, Joe DiNunzio – Fido Management and Sean McCosh – Spark People.
Our first call with Logan Lahive was both great and brutal. He really adjusted our perspective and encouraged us to focus relentlessly on Discovery and simplifying. Something we needed. Since that talk we’ve trimmed some serious fat off of Impulcity.
Have you pivoted yet?
Nope. :)
What’s on the agenda for next week?
Launching our Private Beta!
Is there anything the public can help you guys with?
We’re going to be pushing out our Public Beta here in about a month and a half, so we need users! Everyone and anyone should go to Impulcity.com and click “Sign Up” in the top right corner.
Has your experience at the Brandery been what you expected so far? Harder? Easier?
It’s been amazing so far. I’m excited for the next 11 weeks. We’ve learned so much and are still learning more and more everyday. It’s great to be around such brilliant and focused people all the time.
