Canadian Startup: Wantser Is the Canadian Version Of Pinterest For Wants

Pinterest has caught on like wild fire. We’ve run several stories about Pinterest and it’s crazy valuations. We’ve heard lately that their active users have gone down however it’s still extremely hot. With Pinterest you can “pin” pictures on the internet. It’s been highly adopted by women who pin everything from the latest fashions, to art projects, home interior decorating ideas and even fashion.

Imagine if you will, pinning the things you want and then having access to the ways to get those things. If you see a fancy new purse on Pinterest instead of pinning it, you “want” it. Well that’s the idea behind Canadian startup Wantster.

CEO Ky Joseph and Chris Edelman a Canadian radio sales executive, started Wantster to do just that. You can simply download the Wantster “want” button to your browser, the same way some do with Pinterest, and when you see something you want, “want it”. With Wantster’s mobile app you can take a picture of something you want for later and put it in your “want” list.

More after the break

Wanster solves a huge engagement problem in the Pinterest model. Right now Pinterest is one of the top drivers or referral traffic to retail sites, when a retail store is active on Pinterest. Now, with Wantster the end user can be connected to the things they “want” online and add it to their want lists.

Wantster is the ultimate gift registry. Now friends, and family don’t have to harp over what to get someone for their next birthday, wedding or baby. It’s all their on the users want list (provided they update the list)

Sure it sounds like an easy enough idea but for some reason it hasn’t been done quite this way yet.  Wantster will help get rid of the paper waste in catalogs and circulars as the service grows.

When Wantster was in beta it was called “Tigidi” which is “I dig it” backwards. The Beta test, which blew through 6000 users used a “Dig it” button, probably for obvious reasons the name and the button were changed (digg it).

While Wanster is a Canadian based startup I had no problem registering and tagging some want items around the internet. You can sign up via Facebook or with an email address. You just move the button to your bookmarks bar and whenever you see something you like voila. It’s that easy.
